2010 Walking Tour of the USA

As an introduction to our walking path around the facility we have started a new program - 2010 Walking Tour of the USA.  We are encouraging everyone to let us know how many times around our path you go. Once around the path = 1 mile.  In the activity room are slips to fill out and the box to put them in.  Watch our progress on the USA map just inside of the activity room.

Postcards - Can't walk with us - help us on our tour.  Do you know anyone in the state we are walking through?  Ask them to send us a postcard!  It will be a great way for us to learn about their state.

Progress - check back frequently on our website for our progress. We will share tidbits of fun that we are having along the way.

It has not quite been a month and we made it all the way across Wyoming.  We are now heading to St. Maries, Idaho - only 232 miles.  We received a postcard from Lisa Kilton of Boise, Idaho.  She writes that they had received snow on May 22nd, Boise is a semiarid climate with 4 seasons and that JR Simplot supplies all the french fries for McDonald's.  We all think of Idaho as the potato state. Lisa is a friend of Tim Reinemann, Life Enrichment Therapist.

In just one week we make it Bismarck, North Dakota in spite of the cold, rainy and snowy weather all week. We received two postcards from Kitty Teigen of Fargo, ND showing us the beauty of her state.  Our staff member, Tim Reinemann, was able to find us this connection.  We have now set our goal for Whitefish, Montana.  This is home to Faith Shuck, sister of our employee Joe Wright.  Faith has sent us not only postcards but brochures about Whitefish.  It's only 757 miles!!

We arrived at Pierre, South Dakota today.  It is the start of National Walking Week and we are offering double miles this week to celebrate.  We are now heading north 210 miles to Bismark, North Dakota.  We hope someone in North Dakota will send us a postcard.

We received our second postcard from Rochelle Redhage of Andover, SD.  She writes that they have Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument and the Corn Palace.  Andover has a population of 98! She drives 30 miles one way to shop.  Most of their roads are gravel or dirt.  Only main highways and town streets are paved.  In Andover they have one paved road.  She raises sheep to spin their wool.  Rochelle is the sister of two of our employees: Rhonda and Robert Ostermann.
